Making homemade dog food is not only healthy for your pet, but for your pocketbook as well.
Food has the ability to either harm or heal. Good nutrition provides the foundation for all good (or ill) health. The most important thing you can do to ensure the health of your dog is to feed them a good high quality, balanced, natural diet.
Benefits of a natural diet include:
- Less vulnerable to disease
- Good digestion
- Healthier, shinier skin and coat
- Cleaner teeth and fresh breath
- Greater energy and stamina
It is important to initially transition to their new food slowly. However, healthy dogs and cats that are fed a variety of food generally tolerate food changes with little or no issues.
As the saying goes “variety is the spice of life”. The same can be said for your dog’s diet. After all do you want to eat the same thing every day?
Dogs are much more likely to receive the necessary nutrients they need, and less likely to suffer from allergies, if they are given a variety of different foods. If you choose to feed kibble (either homemade or excellent quality store bought), be sure to switch it every couple of months and supplement with an excellent high quality canned food, or “human” ingredients.
